2021 Toyota GR Yaris makes an insane 268 hp — from a 3-cylinder engine
Toyota GR Yaris finally made its debut at the Tokyo Auto Salon and represents more than we expected. It actually produces more power than previously reported with 268 horsepower.
Comes with a 1.6-liter turbocharged three-cylinder engine in a line and is the most powerful engine in the world of its kind. Toyota says the GR Yaris accelerates from 0-100 km/h in 5.5 seconds.
But the engine is just the beginning of a little monster. Comes with a manual gearbox and all-wheel-drive system. Performance can be channeled into three different options: Normal, Sport and Track.
60% of power goes to the front wheels and 40% to the rear wheels in Normal mode. In Sport the configuration changes where 30% of the power goes to the front wheels and 70% to the rear. In Track the power is split 50% by 50%.
The chassis has been improved. The front suspension has MacPherson shock absorbers while the rear features a two-wing shock absorber design. The front brakes have four-piston calipers and 14-inch rotors.
GR Yaris top speed is electronically limited to 230km/h. The European version is limited to 257 horsepower.
