Google has launched some new features in Chrome citing added browser performance. Chrome now has better PDF document management, easy link sharing, and more.

“Link to Highlight” is a feature that is used to share underlined text with friends or work colleagues. Just select the text on a web page and right-click on the “Copy link to highlight” option. By opening this link the recipient is automatically sent to the section where the underlined text is located.

The option is currently being launched in Chrome for desktop and Android.

PDF management has also been improved. A new sidebar makes it possible to view all PDF pages in thumbnail and quickly skip to a specific page.

Penetration Mode hides all the tools to focus on the content. Another new option that is coming to Chrome is freezing tabs for closed groups. Thus the browser will reduce memory consumption and CPU usage for closed tab groups by improving performance.

Finally, Google talked about performance enhancement. Chrome reduces CPU usage by 35% and increases battery life by 1.25 hours on Mac and Windows computers. Also the browser now consumes only 100MB for each open tab.

With Chrome 77 Google brought one of the best features of the browser, that of sending websites between devices.

In short if you are reading an article on the phone you can send it immediately to your laptop. All you have to do is right-click on the tab and select the device that appears from the menu.

By clicking on the notification that is displayed on the device you are sending the page to, it opens automatically. While you could open tabs between different devices by browsing history, this option is especially true if you don’t have mobile internet.

You can also send pages from your phone to your desktop and laptop along with other phones if you want to read something on a larger screen. Simply click on the menu with three horizontal dots and select the “Send to your devices” option which instantly displays a list of devices.

The company announced today that third-party developers have until October 15 to comply with new user data rules or will risk being excluded from the Chrome Web Store.

New changes to the Strobe project were introduced at the beginning of the year following an audit of Chrome third-party plugins and apps on how users manage their data. New measures anticipate that developers undertake a more conservative approach to user permissions. Add-ons should require as few data as possible.

Moreover, any app that manages user content should post a privacy policy. In the past, Google requires such a pact only for plugins that have access to sensitive information touching only a small number of applications.

In February, a study found that 85% of Chrome plugins did not have a privacy policy. After October 15, any app that violates new privacy policies is likely to be removed from the Chrome Web Store.

Google has also updated the developer’s manual.
