Xiaomi unveiled the latest phone of the very popular Redmi Note series and just as the Redmi Note 7 had a 48-megapixel camera, Redmi Note 8 Pro has a 64-megapixel sensor.
Two days ago Realme introduced the XT model with the same sensor but Xiaomi has already made the full presentation. Why would you need a 64-megapixel camera? Like 48-megapixel phones, you cannot capture full-resolution photos.
Both sensor designs contain 0.8µm pixels but grouped four together to provide better sensitivity to light. Using this technique a 48-megapixel camera produces 12-megapixel images while with the new 64-megapixel sensor you will get 16-megapixel resolution.
The new sensor is also physically larger. In some situations, with extremely high light, you will want to take 1:1 64-megapixel photos but 16-megapixels will be more used in different situations.
However the Redmi Note 8 Pro has a reason to buy it and the rest of the hardware is what you would expect from an Xiaomi phone. The 6.55-inch 1080p display and four rear cameras where in addition to the 64-megapixel sensor it offers a super wide 8-megapixel and two 2-megapixel assist. Recall that the front sensor is 20-megapixels.
Note 8 Pro has a MediaTek Helio G90T processor with 6 or 8GB of RAM and 64 or 128GB of memory.
While the Note 8 has a 6.3-inch 1080p display, Snapdragon 655 processor, rear fingerprint scanner, four rear cameras but the 48-megapixel sensor replaces the 64-megapixel one. The selfie camera is 13-megapixels and 4,000 mAh battery.
Prices start at $140 for the Note 8 and $195 for the Note 8 Pro.
