The Mate 40 Pro is Huawei’s latest super phone, which the company hopes to compete with the iPhone 12 Pro and Samsung’s Galaxy S20 and Note series. A phone with an attractive body, packed with the latest high technology and 5G. But while there are strong specifications on paper, it suffers from a major problem.

The Camera

The main sensor has been increased from 40MP to 50MP. It manages to shoot in 4K at 60 fps but also slow-motion clips at 1080p at 480 fps and 3,840 fps at 720p. YES, you read it well, as many frames per second as you can film even one bullet coming out of the pistol. The Cine camera has a 20MP sensor and an ultra-wide-angle and is the first camera on a smartphone to remove distortion features. The 125mm periscope returns to the other 12MP sensor and this time reaches up to 5x zoom unlike the 3x of the predecessor.

Unlike the standard version, the Pro reaches up to 10x optical zoom, for results we have to wait for testing.

The Screen

The 6.73″ OLED display is pretty much a jump from the 6.53″ of the Mate P30. The resolution has also been increased to 1,344 x 2,772px. And apparently, Huawei has decided to still be among the Android with side curved screen, even pretty curved, 88° arc. Do not be afraid, the physical buttons are still present. The refresh rate does not go more than 90Hz while the boxes are stereo and equipped with 3D sound.

The Battery

The battery has also received special treatment. The capacity remains 4,400mAh but the speed at which it is charged is quite higher. With a USB-C cable, it can reach up to 66W of charge. With wireless it reaches up to 50W, surprising!

The power chip is the Kirin 9000 and joins Apple in the 5nm architecture. Undoubtedly the 5G modem is present in both mmWave and sub6 infrastructures. The Huawei Mate 40 Pro will come to Europe with only an 8GB/256GB configuration with a memory card space. The bold $1,200 price tag will bring a range of colors.

Pro+ uses ceramic materials and reaches up to 12GB RAM. Huawei is here and does not intend to leave, this is definitely confirmed by the Porsche version present this time as well.

Huawei Mate 40 series prices

  • Huawei Mate 40: 899 euros
  • Huawei Mate 40 Pro: 1,199 euros
  • Huawei Mate 40 Pro Plus: 1,399 euros
  • Porsche Design Mate 40 RS: 2,295 euros
  • Huawei FreeBuds Studio: 299 euros.

But is it worth it?

Due to the ongoing restrictions imposed by the US government, Huawei phones can not use any Google services, including Gmail, Maps and Chrome and, most importantly, the Google Play Store. While Huawei has its own app store (for which I will come later) it is nowhere to rival Google and makes this phone difficult to recommend to any of its rivals.

PayPal makes a sudden move in the cryptocurrency industry

PayPal joined cryptocurrency trading on Wednesday, allowing platform users to buy, sell and store bitcoin and other virtual currencies. PayPal customers can use cryptocurrencies to buy at 26 merchants on the company network starting from the first month of next year, the company said, writes gizmonova.

[td_block_ad_box spot_id=”custom_ad_2″]

We are working with central banks and all forms of digital currencies and how PayPal can play a role in their adoption,” said Dan Schulman, chief executive officer.

Currently, the ability to buy, sell and hold cryptocurrencies in PayPal wallets will only be offered to users in the US. In the first half of 2021 more countries will join this list. Other fintech and digital payment companies have also begun to allow users to buy and sell cryptocurrencies like Square or Robinhood. But PayPal’s extend does not compare to the platforms in question, as it has 346 million active accounts worldwide and a turnover of $222 billion.

Cryptocurrencies have fluctuating value and have therefore been more attractive to speculators and less so to traders and shops. Transactions have been slower and more costly than other systems. Many central banks around the world have expressed their intentions to build digital versions of cryptocurrencies in the coming years.

iPhone 12 vs. OnePlus 8T

iPhone 12 vs. OnePlus 8T – where should you money go?

A few days after the launch of the iPhone 12 on October 13, OnePlus unveiled the OnePlus 8T

Both phones will be available from October 23 and will compete to seduce new buyers. The price for both smartphones is more or less the same, while the iPhone 12 costs $799 for the base model, the OnePlus 8T comes for a price of $749 – there is practically only $50 that separates these two devices. So a comparison of the specifications and features of these close competitors – iPhone 12 and OnePlus 8T was inevitable, writes slashgear.

Samsung, Xiaomi, OnePlus mock the lack of a charger in the iPhone 12 box

OnePlus with the launch of OnePlus 8T this Wednesday emphasized that a 65W charger is included in the package

Among the things that made the most news after the iPhone 12 launch event was the lack of an adapter and headphones in the packaging. Apple’s justification is to reduce pollution from electronic devices left in our drawers and then in unrecycled bins.

[td_block_ad_box spot_id=”custom_ad_2″]

Such a move could not pass without a dose of sarcasm on the part of competing companies.

Samsung Caribbean posted a photo of an adapter on Facebook and wrote: “Your #Galaxy gives you what you are looking for. From the most basic as a charger, to the best camera, battery, performance, memory, and even 120Hz on a smartphone.”

Xiaomi did the same, in a Twitter post wrote “Don’t worry, we didn’t leave anything out of the box with the #Mi10TPro.

OnePlus has also entered the dance where with the launch of the OnePlus 8T this Wednesday, it emphasized that a 65W charger is included in the package.

However, the day is not far when these and other companies will start doing the same. Ultimately beyond the ecological concern, this strategy brings price reductions especially at such times when the market trend requires cost shrinking everywhere. In fact, Samsung itself is discussing that it will apply this strategy to 2021 products.

MagSafe

What is the iPhone 12 MagSafe

A smart move with the iPhone 12 launch bears the name MagSafe

The fact that Apple makes a lot of money from iPhone accessories is well known. The lack of a universal headphone jack and USB-C strengthen the need to purchase specific accessories to keep within the company ecosystem. A smart move with the launch of the iPhone 12 bears the name MagSafe.

[td_block_ad_box spot_id=”custom_ad_2″]

It is a new infrastructure of building the back of a smartphone, the wireless charging panel will also have some small magnets all around to hold behind its new accessories, from the charging pads which will already stay fixed with smartphones, pockets to hold cards but also new creations expected to come soon.

Since the launch of the iPhone 12, we saw several products, in addition to the card pocket, a dual pod was introduced, which can charge the smartphone but also a watch or headphone case. Belkin himself is working on such products.

MagSafe is not just a pair of magnets, the system is also equipped with NFC, an option that will allow the device itself to communicate with accessories which may also be smart. This way the smartphone will understand what that system is and what to do with it, such as the sleeve case which has a special space for the watch. When the iPhone is inside it will automatically turn on the clock on the screen.

On the other hand, Apple has also improved the charging itself which has already doubled to 15W. Probably not the fastest in the world but it is progress anyway, considering that wireless charging is not yet as fast as cable charging.

LiDAR scaner

What is a LiDAR scanner and what function does it perform on the iPhone 12?

What is the LiDAR scanner present on the iPhone 12 Pro and Pro Max?

With the new iPhone camera, Apple promises three things: photo and video effects, augmented reality, and scanning of objects and spaces. The last two go mainly to developers and businesses who are looking to create visual maps.

[td_block_ad_box spot_id=”custom_ad_2″]

But a general user will be satisfied with the photo and video effects. What is the LiDAR scanner present on the iPhone 12 Pro and Pro Max? Beyond its application in augmented reality, the LiDAR sensor works by emitting lasers that measure distances. On the iPhone 12 Pro and Pro Max Apple is using it to improve autofocus. The company says that as a result the autofocus is 6 times faster in low light compared to a normal camera. The LiDAR sensor also enables better quality portrait photos in low light conditions. The concept of using a dedicated depth sensor is not new.

Many phones use depth sensors to improve the quality of portrait photos and we can mention OnePlus Nord. But these sensors work mainly in light environments. Some models like the Huawei P30 Pro and Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra have a time-of-flight (ToF) sensor which uses infrared to read the field depth.

Both ToF and LiDAR scans the environment several meters away, but some versions of the latter measure the distances up to 100 meters. Usually, such sensors are used in cars. The advantage of the LiDAR scanner is that it sends small pulses of beam from one corner to the other to scan the environment. While ToF sends only one light pulse to measure space compromising accuracy.

Implementing a LiDAR sensor on the iPhone, developers will most likely be encouraged to find ways to use it primarily in augmented reality. Snapchat became the first app to launch lenses for the iOS app that uses LiDAR.

Apple 5nm Chip-

Apple today will show more than the iPhone 12, a technological revolution

Today the company will make a fuss with the first devices that have a new type of chip

With the new processor, users of these devices can edit 4K video, modify high-resolution photos, and play graphically intensive games more easily than previously possible using fewer battery.

[td_block_ad_box spot_id=”custom_ad_2″]

The new 5-nanometer architecture means that the size of the transistors has been reduced and the processor board occupies more of them than was previously possible. These transistors are now only 25 atoms wide and billions of them can be placed on a single plate. Simply put, more processing power. Four years ago the industry doubted that such an advancement would be possible.

Such advancements would not have been possible before an unknown Dutch company called ASML. This company has developed a way to construct transistors on the silicon plate through a process called Extreme Ultraviolet (EUV). Its machinery costs $123 million a share. It is currently the only company that manufactures these devices and they are more cost-effective than alternative options due to the low level of defects.

Only two chipmakers have started using this technology commercially:

Both firms have their share in ASML alongside Intel which will start using the technology in 2021.

What exactly does 5-nanometer mean?

One nanometer is one of 1 billion Metter. This is the size that human hair grows every second. Transistors are used to measure the width of a component. But a decade ago the way chips are designed changed and nanometers are no longer used as a geometric effect. Today 5 nanometers is more of a marketing term and two companies with the same design can produce transistors with different performance.

To help you understand the size of transistors, at every 1 mm2 of the Apple chip are put 17,1 million transistors. The new structure with a stack of four nanosheets allows about 30 transistors to be placed onto the chip with the size of a fingernail bringing significant gains in efficiency and power.

In comparison to the 10 nm chip, the new 5 nm structure brings 40% performance improvements at fixed power, or 75% power saving at matched performance. This leads to more powerful and more efficient smaller devices.

N5 is the first TSMC process designed around extreme ultraviolet lithography (EUV). Because it uses a 13.5-nanometer light instead of 193-nanometers, EUV can define chip features in one step—compared with three or more steps using 193-nanometer light.

Smarter smartphones

Everything that was said above matters because switching to 5-nanometer means that devices are more intelligent. As chips advance, more tasks are capable of performing and many of them can now be done locally instead of being sent to remote servers. We have already seen smartphones capable of transcribing voices or recognizing people in pictures without the need for an internet connection. With new processors, more complex tasks are possible with artificial intelligence which means that smartphones can better recognize the world around them.

Switching to smaller transistors, processors use less power and have higher performance. For this reason, TSMC 5-nanometer chips should be 15% faster than 7-nanometer ones or 30% more power-efficient.  Apple claims that the A14 can perform machine learning tasks 10 times faster than the A13. But consumers are more concerned about real-life benefits than theoretical digits.

iPhone 12 Last Minute Rumors: Better Zoom and Longer Battery Life

Apple will unveil new iPhone models today. The company will hold an event at 19:00 with our local time and you can watch the live broadcast live on this YouTube link. With the Apple event just a few hours away, you would think that we already know everything about the new iPhone 12. And, for the most part, we know, and here are two summaries of what we expect for Apple to announce tomorrow.

[td_block_ad_box spot_id=”custom_ad_2″]

According to speculation, Apple will introduce four versions of the iPhone 12, including a 5.4-inch “mini” model, an iPhone 12, 12 Pro, and 12 Pro Max. Some of the models will be equipped with 5G technology although the latter is still in experimental stages in many parts of the world.

However, the leaker Max Winebauch has disseminated some very detailed, last-minute information about the new iPhones, some of which we have not heard before.

According to Winebauch, the smallest of the iPhone, the 5.4-inch “iPhone 12 Mini” – will have a TrueDepth camera system adjusted at the front, resulting in a level that is smaller horizontally but slightly larger vertically.

Zoom is getting another improvement; Weinbauch claims that the Pro models will have 3x optical zoom and 25x to 30x digital zoom, while the non-Pro iPhone 12 models will get better zoom through software upgrades.

The new iPhones are getting bigger batteries than the previous models. This should result in one-hour battery life for Pro models. However, the 5.4-inch iPhone 12 Mini will perform worse than the iPhone 11 when it comes to battery life, due to its smaller size.

Other news from Weinbauch includes support for 4K video at 120 or 240 fps, faster Face ID operation, night mode being added to the telephoto camera, better low light performance for the ultrawide camera, and a possible macro camera mode, as well as a portrait video.

The big Apple event starts at 19:00, on Tocday, October 13th.

How to follow the iPhone 12 live presentation?

Apple will introduce new iPhone models today. The company will hold an event at 19:00 with our local time and you can watch the live broadcast live on this YouTube, or through the video below.

Apple will also introduce a wireless charging device. The iPhone giant has also long been reported to be working on a pair of headphones that will join the AirPods line. As we said above Apple will broadcast the activity live on YouTube and it is the easiest way to watch it.

AMD Zen 3 Desktop CPUs

AMD Zen 3 5000 series Desktop CPUs Officially Revealed

How would be able AMD to create a third successful Ryzen 9 processor? Last year it was clear that the company had brought a real challenge to Intel especially in video game performance. With the new Zen 3 architecture, AMD went the illustrations once again to create a processor and platform which is more efficient. The company even got more turbo frequencies and 19% more (IPC) showing real performance.

[td_block_ad_box spot_id=”custom_ad_2″]

The Ryzen 9 5900X debuts on 15 November is a 12-core 24 threads chip with 4.8Ghz turbo frequency, 64MB L3 Cache and 105-watt thermal design. AMD says the 5900X offers 26% more gaming performance than the Zen 2. Specifically, it has increased performance per core where AMD has faced difficulties. The company says it is the first processor to go beyond 600 points in the Cinebenc R20 1T benchmarks with 631 points. The Core i9-10900K processor scores 544 points even though it has a higher frequency.

Ryzen 9 5900X

The rest of the 5000 line is a model Ryzen 5800X with 8 cores and one with 6 cores the Ryzen 5600X that sell for $449 and $299 respectively.

Lastly, the company had maintained a surprise, the Ryzen 5950X model with 16 cores and 32 threads as well as 4.9Ghz turbo frequency while maintaining the same thermal design of 105-watt starting at $799. It is the ideal solution for those who want the performance of a Threadripper but at a much lower cost.

What makes Zen 3 special? Redesigned design creating a unified 8-core complex that reduces instruction delays and allows cores to reach the processor L3 Cache itself. The results of this design will be felt mainly in games and their online streaming like Twitch. Overall Zen 3 is 24% faster than Zen 2 and 2.4 times faster than Zen 1. AMD said the company is currently working on the Zen 4 5-nanometer architecture.
