IDC and Strategy Analytics today released the latest smartphone sales statistics and the clear winner according to them is Chinese giant Huawei at the expense of Samsung and Apple.
Huawei has flirted with the position of the world’s second-largest producer since long after overtakes Apple for the first time in 2017 and since 2018 where remained changing positions.
The growth of the company in 2019 gives more control over the second place. Huawei rose from 39.3 million phones sold in the first three months of 2018 to 59.1 million phones sold in the first three months of 2019 according to IDC and SA.
IPhone sales contracted from 52.2 million last year to 36 to 43 million this year. Apple recently stopped providing statistics on sales of phones and the above digits are predictions.
Though Samsung dropped from 78.2 million phones sold at 71.9 million. In fact without Huawei’s growth the smartphone market would have been in crisis already.
Other global brands that once had visible presence are also suffering. Sony‘s sales have fallen and the company is considering to stop the business altogether. Last week, LG signaled the prohibition of sales in South Korea. While HTC has only technically left part of this market.
Huawei is the only exception. The company has recently been criticized and rejected by the United States where it is not allowed to sell the phones.
All Huawei’s success comes from China and Europe.
