High Refresh Rate Screens

High Refresh Rate Screens: 60Hz, 90Hz and 120Hz explained

But for what reason should you buy a phone with the latest screen trend?

High-end smartphones are increasingly using high frequency screens like 90Hz or 120Hz. The letter looks like great news, and it is a chance for companies to differentiate themselves from others.

[td_block_ad_box spot_id=”custom_ad_2″]

But for what reason should you buy a phone with the latest screen trend? In fact there is no definitive answer. The benefits of a high-frequency display and how it works are not well understood by most users. While the games and content look sweeter, it is worth noting the battery consumption.

In this article we explain everything you need to know about these screens.

> Check Out: How to Calibrate Mobile Phone Battery – That’s why it Needs Calibration

What is the screen frequency?

The screens are not static. The content and movement of objects are smooth to the eye because each pixel is updated on-screen with the latest contents through the processor. But it does not happen irregularly and unexpectedly. The panels update the contents that appear on the screen at regular intervals known as the screen frequency.

Simply put, the screen frequency is how fast a smartphone’s screen is updated. It is measured in Hertz (Hz) and is indicated by a number of times the screen is updated per second.

A 60Hz display is updated 60 times per second, 90Hz full 90 times per second, and 120Hz at a dizzying speed of 120 times per second. So a 120Hz screen is updated twice as fast as a 60Hz screen and 4 times faster than an old 30Hz TV.

Faster refresh means less delay because the pixels are refreshed more often. For example it takes 16.6ms for a 60Hz display to update, 11.1ms for a 90Hz display and 8.3ms for a 120Hz display. Your smartphone screen is not refreshed all at once but with horizontal rows of pixels from start to finish.

What do 60Hz, 90Hz and 120Hz mean for my phone?

The high frequency of screen refresh makes content and graphic movements smoother and faster. In fact, most of them do not benefit from this frequency, such as interacting with e-mails and Facebook apps that are limited to 60Hz.

Most videos on the internet are at 24 frequencies per second or 24Hz. But apps and graphics content will pop up faster with a high-frequency display.

Such screens actually make the difference in video games. High frequency has an impact on video game as well. Usually players use 120Hz or 144Hz frequency screens. Now mobile players can also benefit from this. Thus the graphical frequency of the game is in line with the screen frequency.

The biggest cost of these screens is the battery life. For example, in the OnePlus 7 Pro, the 90Hz screen reduces the battery life by 200 minutes.

Should I buy a 90Hz or 120Hz screen phone?

This screen technology is becoming popular with modern smartphones especially in the high end segment. Screen frequency is just one aspect of a smartphone screen and not a feature that will affect whether or not to buy a smartphone.

What matters most to a screen is its color gamut, contrast, temperature and resolution. If you want to buy such a phone below then you should buy one of these models:

Huawei Unveiled MatePad Pro 5G Tablet with 5G and Wireless Charging

The MatePad Pro 5G even has an optional stylus and keyboard cover

Huawei’s newest tablet, the MatePad Pro 5G, is a 5G version of the 10.8-inch tablet introduced last year for the Chinese market. Combined with the M-Pencil stylus keyboard and pen, the tablet can be compared to the iPad Pro though it has some unique features.

[td_block_ad_box spot_id=”custom_ad_2″]

One of them is two-way wiring charging, the ability to connect the smartphone screen to the tablet, and 5G connectivity. The tablet comes with Android open-source and without Google apps and services. Huawei says the MatePad Pro is the world’s first wireless technology tablet.

Tablet charging is done with 27W and reverse charging with 7.5W via wireless technology. This tablet can also be used to charge the keyboard case, headset or smartphone. But it can only charge one device at a time. Compared to the iPad Pro, the screen frames on the MatePad Pro 5G are much thinner and Huawei says the screen covers 90% of the tablet’s body.

The screen has a resolution of 2,560 × 1600 with a 16:10 aspect ratio. Inside is a Kirin 990 processor and 7,250 mAh battery. Like the iPad Pro, the MatePad Pro can charge the stylus pen by attaching on it. With just 30 seconds of charging we get 10 minutes of battery life.

The 5G tablet goes for €799 for the base model with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of memory. The most expensive goes for €949 for 8GB of RAM and 512GB of memory.

Recent Samsung and Motorola problems suggest it’s still too early to buy a foldable screen phone

Another folding screen phone is breaking

Two new phones with foldable screens, the $1,380 Galaxy Z Flip and the $1,500 Motorola Razr launched in recent weeks have begun to show they first problems.

[td_block_ad_box spot_id=”custom_ad_2″]

All seems a deja vu of a the similar situation a year ago when Galaxy Fold models sent to analysts were broken. The phone was delayed for 5 months while Samsung found a solution.

Even the latest foldable phones are showing their problems.

The Galaxy Z Flip’s screen looks like it’s plastic, not glass

Over the weekend the YouTube channel JerryRigEverything questioned the Galaxy Z Flip screen that Samsung says has a glass coating on it. In a hardness test, JerryRigEverything found that the screen of the latest Samsung phone scratched as if it were plastic rather than glass. But during a presentation conference last week, Samsung said that this is the first super thin glass phone ever made that Samsung called: “Ultra Thin Glass”.

The company’s claims sparked hope among enthusiasts that the Galaxy Z Flip would not have the Galaxy Fold problems. One thing is for sure, the Galaxy Z Flip looks more stable than the Galaxy Fold.   Samsung has also offered to replace the phone display for the first time for 119 dollars.

Motorola Razr Can Broke

Another folding screen phone is breaking. Input technology website said the phone’s screen was disconnected from the body and completely damaged after a few days of use. The site does not know how the damage was done but posted some photos to confirm its claims. Motorola has not commented on the problem.

But all this shows why Motorola and Samsung have been reluctant to share their devices with tech analysts. Motorola shipped some models only after the phone was available to consumers while Samsung left Galaxy Z Flip in their hands for only 24 hours.

Motorola’s problems are more serious than Samsung’s. But the lesson was learned from this situation: it’s too early for a folding screen phone!

Five reasons why Galaxy Z Flip is much better than Galaxy Fold

Galaxy Z Flip, unlike Galaxy Fold that when opened looks like a tablet, when opened it looks like a regular smartphone

The Galaxy Unpacked event that took place in San Francisco, United States, Samsung opened it with the most anticipated announcement of all, the Galaxy Z Flip.

[td_block_ad_box spot_id=”custom_ad_2″]

Although it’s been a while since the Galaxy Fold came out, we haven’t forgotten about the infamous #FoldGate, or the time when the Fold spread and a million problems exploded before it hit the market.

Hopefully the story doesn’t repeat itself with the Z Flip, while based on design and specifics there are pretty high expectations. So far, there are five powerful reasons why the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip is so much better than a foldable Galaxy Fold phone and that it will succeed.

#1. The Z Flip is compact, convenient and with a nice design

This smartphone, closes like a shell, which is a much more compact system, and can be easily held in a pocket or bag, making the use very convenient and practical. All of these amenities are made while the Z Flip continues to look very good, based on its sleek and beautiful design.

#2. The price is much cheaper

At 1,270 euros, the Z Flip is not cheap at all, but compared to the 1,840 euros which costs Fold, it’s much more reasonable. For any smartphone that has a camera like cheap smartphones, you would not have to pay over 900 euros, but for those who want a foldable phone, then Z Flip is recommended, as it is cheaper than the Motorola Razr which costs 1,380 euros.

#3. In Z Flip is a thin layer of glass, which makes it much more durable

Unlike the inappropriate plastic used on the Galaxy Fold, the Z Flip uses a special glass developed by Samsung called the Ultra Thin Glass. The glass has made it thinner, while being said to be much more scratch resistant as well as more sensitive to use.

#4. The hidden space where it folds

Like any foldable smartphone, the Galaxy Z Flip has a space to fold and open to make the screen full. But in this smartphone, this space is much more invisible, but also resilient and powerful at the same time. Based on Samsung data, this space can be locked and opened up to 200,000 times and not appear to make it much better than the one used in Motorola phones.

#5. Much greater screen versatility

One of the favorite things about the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip is the versatility of the screen. Here the screen can stay half closed and used as a small laptop, or use the screen in two, for two different types of materials. The very versatile screen opening system makes the use even more practical and attractive.
